Berkshire mixes Victorian and Edwardian terraces in Reading, Caversham and Wokingham with Georgian and period homes in Henley, Sonning and the Thames villages, and large post-war and modern estates around Bracknell, Woodley and Tilehurst. Many homes have been extended or had their lofts converted over the years.
Issues we often look out for
Much of the area sits on clay, which can shrink and swell with the seasons, so we look carefully for cracking, especially near mature trees. Homes close to the Thames, the Kennet and the Loddon may be near flood zones. In older terraces we often find damp from blocked air bricks or raised ground levels, and alterations such as removed chimney breasts or knocked-through walls that need checking.
